Unfortunately for all the hardcore Baileys Irish cream drink fans, freezing Baileys Irish cream is not recommended, and is, quite frankly, bad.

I know how important this drink is, especially during Christmas time. It is the perfect mix of the savory Irish whiskey with the sweet heavy cream.

A lot of people often wonder whether or not they can freeze Baileys Irish cream. This could be due to a multitude of reasons, beginning from simply cooling it in the freezer for an hour or two to enjoy it after dinner, all the way to storing the leftovers in the freezer for later.

The action of freezing Baileys Irish cream can pose a problem, which is the separation of the cream from the fancy Whiskey. That’s why, it is not really condoned to even try to freeze it.

Can you keep Baileys in the fridge?

On the other hand, though, you can, in fact, leave Baileys Irish cream in the fridge instead of the freezer. Whether to cool it prior to drinking it, instead of watering it down with ice cubes, or to keep it fresh for some extra time.

I do recommend though, leaving the non-branded Baileys Irish cream in the fridge instead of the branded one as a way to prolong its shelf life as it doesn’t have any preservatives, unlike the fancy branded Baileys.

Can you freeze homemade Baileys Irish cream?

Unfortunately, no. You can’t. Just like branded Baileys, it is not recommended to freeze it as it will separate in the freezer as well. However, keeping it in the fridge to preserve it for more time can, in fact, provide you with an extra 8 weeks without it going bad.

Baileys Irish cream expiration date

Yes. It is usually written on the bottom of the bottle or on the bottom left hand side of the label. It can last for 2 years whether it is opened or not. Drinking it after its BBE date is usually not recommended as it simply won’t be of the same quality.

How to store Baileys Irish cream

These key points will definitely help you to keep your Baileys Irish cream drink for as long as you can without it going bad.

  • Don’t expose Baileys to direct sunlight
  • Always keep it in a cool, dark place, like the pantry, larder or drinks cabinet.
  • Try to always keep it in a temperature under 25 degree C (room temperature)
  • Control the surrounding temperature as much as you can. Avoid any fluctuation in temperature.

Keep your Baileys Irish Cream at room temperature. However, if you happen to live in a country with a warmer climate than 25 degrees C, then better be safe and keep your Baileys in the fridge away from any sunlight as well.

Keep in mind, though, these tips can be good for branded Baileys. However, some other types of the supermarket brands require different storage instructions and can’t be kept outside of the fridge. In addition to only lasting for 6 months or so.

Does Baileys go bad?

It all lies in the method of storing your Baileys Irish cream. If not properly stored then expect it to go bad. The factor that might affect its quality is almost always the heat.

If it is exposed to different heats or the surrounding temperature was too warm, then you might find your Baileys not so good after all.

Alcohol is the key preservative in Baileys. However, branded Baileys are usually produced following certain standards that decrease the chances of its quick spoilage.

How to tell if Baileys has gone bad

Well, the smell and texture is always your reference when it comes to Baileys going bad.

Once you pour yourself a glass of Baileys, if it has gone bad, then you will notice a lumpy or weird, definitely not smooth, texture. Also, the smell will be a bit rancid instead of its amazing signature smell.

What to do with leftover Baileys

You can use your leftover Baileys Irish cream to make yourself a fancy dessert instead of throwing it away.

Here are all my favorite dishes that Baileys is a main ingredient in:
