I love Krispy Kreme donuts. Whenever I see any Krispy Kreme station, I cannot resist not going in and buying a dozen of these delicious treats. Let’s face it. They are cheaper in bulk. And of course, they always offer new and tempting flavors every time I pay them a visit.
That’s why I made this question “Can you freeze Krispy Kreme donuts?” my personal quest. I had to find out the answer to this, or else I would throw my precious donuts to waste. Luckily though, I did!
And that’s what I am going to share with you today, the detailed steps of freezing your fresh Krispy Kreme donuts.
Bear in mind that the fresher you put them in the freezer, the better the frozen outcome will be. Put them in the freezer preferably before 24 hours, and maximum after 48 hours, or they will be stale and inedible.
How to freeze Krispy Kreme donuts:
Although the steps can differ from one method to another, I prefer this one, where I wrap each amazing donut individually before placing all of them in a freezer bag so that they are protected as much as possible from freezer burns. In addition to the fact that it facilitates the defrosting step as you won’t have to get the whole batch out of the freezer, only the ones you are actually going to eat.
- Start by tightly wrapping each donut individually in Clingfilm, then placing the donuts apart from each other on a baking tray.
- Place the tray in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours or until the donuts solidify a bit so that their shape is more preserved later on when they are stored in the freezer.
- Transfer all the donuts from the baking tray to a freezer-safe container or even a regular freezer bag, but before you do so, label each container or freezer bag with the date of freezing and the flavors of the donuts being frozen, their fillings, and in case of any allergies.
- Put them back in the freezer to be frozen.
How to defrost Krispy Kreme donuts?
Just transfer the number of donuts you want to defrost from the freezer to the fridge, then leave them to slowly defrost overnight. This is the best way to thaw any type of bakeries and guarantees the complete retaining of their amazing freshness, especially if you froze them while they were still extra fresh.
You can also defrost them on the counter, which is a quicker way to do so by just leaving them for about 1 to 2 hours outside of the fridge.
Enjoy your donuts within the first 24 hours after defrosting them.
How long do Krispy Kreme donuts keep in the freezer?
They can last for up to 2 months in the freezer if you follow the steps mentioned above. And they can also be edible and safe to eat after that time. However, not as enjoyable as before, because of the risk of freezer burns which can affect the taste and texture of the donuts. Personally speaking, I can enjoy Krispy Kreme donuts in any state. I just thought I should warn you!
Can you freeze filled Krispy Kreme donuts?
Yes. You can absolutely freeze any type of donut, whether filled or not. And of course, any type of filling. Jam, chocolate, or even crème filling. All except the whipped cream one, as it doesn’t freeze that well.
